Guided walks with Cotswold Wardens near Stroud, Feb. 2026
There are several warden-led walks coming up within easy reach of Stroud. There is no need to book and there is no charge for joining the walks. However, there is a box for a voluntary contribution towards materials for our work on footpath maintenance. Walks start usually at 10.00 am. & will return to the starting point. A packed lunch is advisable. Sadly, no dogs allowed, but dog walkers could find attractive self-guided walks on the website. Wednesday, 25th February, 2026 The three ways from Sapperton
Following woodland tracks and bridlepaths, we will start in Sapperton and head south to Tarlton before returning back through Tarlton Wood.
Distance 6 miles / 9.66 km, Duration 3 hours, Difficulty May be steep slopes, moderate fitness
Using the Macmillan, Wysis and Thames & Severn Way, we will walk above the Canal Tunnel through Hailey Wood before reaching Tarlton, a village mentioned in the Doomsday Book with a Grade II listed chapel. Our return is across fields and back through the wood with several steep climbs

Wednesday, 25th February, 2026 – Frocester
Coffee Morning Walk, ‘Harbingers of Spring’
A walk taking in a magnificent 13th century tithe barn; hopefully with young lambs.
Distance 5.5 miles / 8.85 km,, Duration 3.5 hours Difficulty Unsurfaced paths, basic fitness
The walk, which starts at 10:30, takes us first to Silver St. then to the impressive 13th century tithe barn at Frocester Court. With luck there will be new born lambs to see. The walk is mainly across fields which can be muddy in winter. We do this walk every year and have encountered floods on occasions –however there have always been ways round them.
Refreshments There is a good pub in the village for lunch after the walk.
Friday, 27th February, 2026 – Start: 10:15 am Cirencester – Town and Country
A Riders and Striders walk open to walkers and all-terrain mobility scooter riders. Starting at Perrotts Brook we take the Monarch’s Way following the Churn into the Cirencester Abbey Grounds then take in some historic features before returning.

Route description
This part of the Monarchs Way follows the historic road which was superseded by what is now the A435. It’s signed as a cycle route and makes a good Tramper route, passing through villages and countryside. Baunton has an ancient church and just off the trail is a former sheep wash. As we approach Cirencester we pass alongside water meadows still fitted with working sluices to distribute the water.
Cirencester is rightly proud of its Wool Church, the majestic St John the Baptist.
In the Abbey grounds there are fully accessible toilets (ie a Tramper can go in too) which will be welcome at half way.

Stagecoach bus 51 stops in Perrotts Brook with an hourly service from Cirencester or Cheltenham https://www.stagecoachbus.com/plan-a-journey/ This gives the option of walking one way only.
Saturday, 28th February, 2026 – Sapperton
Saturday ‘The Wrong Way’
This is a varied walk including Daneway Banks Nature Reserve, Siccaridge Wood Nature Reserve and the abandoned Thames and Severn Canal. Dogs are unfortunately not able to be accommodated on our guided walks (except assistance dogs).
Distance 4.5 miles / 7.24 km Duration 3.5 hours Difficulty May be steep slopes, moderate fitness needed
The walk follows the abandoned Thames and Severn Canal and then up into Siccaridge Wood.
The walk then passes through Daneway Banks limestone grass meadow and then continues across pasture land and back down through the Frome Valley passing Pinbury Park on the way back to Sapperton.
